INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO ORDER A ROPE

To avoid any mistakes, when asking for prices or when ordering, please clearly state the type of rope that is required.

The following information is to be provided:

number of ropes and length of each rope;
type of material: bright, galvanized, stainless steel, etc;
diameter;
costruction; type of core;
resistance;
direction and type of lay;
preformed or non-preformed;
prestretched or non-prestretched;
accessories, if needed

Example:
1x100 metres (useful length) of 18 mm bright, steel rope; made of 6x19 Seale wires + 1 (fiber core), resistance of 1770 N/mm2 = 180 Kgf/mm2, right-hand ordinary lay, preformed.

If any of the above information is not provided, the rope supplied will be of a type that is available, and of the nearest features.
We advise to state the intended use of the rope at all times.

Customers asking for our advice on how to increase the life-span of the ropes for an existing installation, should provide the following information:

features of ropes presently used (see above list) and their actual performance
a sketch/drawing of the lay inclusive of all data concerning pulley and drums such as diameters, size of grooves, pitch of races on the drum, hoisting height;
duty rate;
rated load and maximum load;
number of layers of a rope on a drum with hoisted load;
particular conditions such as corrosive atmosphere, exposure to high temperatures, etc.

QUALITY CERTIFICATION AND TESTS

In accordance with the articles of the ”Regulations for Compliance with 89/392/CEE, 91/368/CEE, 93/44/CEE and 93/68/CEE Standards” concerning the correspondence among the standards of the EEC member states relative to machineries, SIRTEF issues a Certificate of Conformity that reports all topics treated by the harmonized standards.

All ropes, when they are not part of a lot of slings, must bear a plate or a fixed ring that shows at least the references of the manufacture and the certificate of conformity.

Sirtef is also able to carry out performance/breaking tests for any type of rope.

The 150 ton Test Bench, that has been ratified by the Milan Polytechnic Institute and by the Italian Shipping Register, has been built with special attention for carrying out tests of any type, including pre-tensioning on ropes and resistance tests on any type of terminal for steel wire ropes. The device used to test micro cables and single wires making up ropes with diameters exceeding 42 mm has also been ratified by the Milan Polytechnic Institute; along with the Keller and Bohacek instrument it is the obvious completion of the Test Bench for testing steel ropes. Moreover, Sirtef is equipped with all the measuring instruments that are needed to guarantee an effective dimensional control of the marketed products.
